First United Methodist Church Hawkins, Texas
Rev. David Hicks and Wife Carolyn will be glad to welcome you to our church.
About Our Past On September 15, 1885, the Texas & Pacific Railroad gave the present site to the Methodist Church, the deed being signed by Jay Gould, the president of the railroad, and a very well-known figure in the history of East Texas. Then, and for a number of years, this was the only church in town. Also, the only school in town was held in the Methodist Church. There were so few members that services were held only once a month. 1940 brought the discovery of oil and the coming of more people, which was a spiritual boost to the eighteen members who were trying to keep the church open. Then in 1946, a building committee was elected, and the members were able to construct the present building. Many fine pastors and members have come and gone in the years since, and we are thankful to God for each of them. In 1998,under the leadership of the Reverend Robert E. Young, pledges were received for a new building, to include the new Fellowship Hall, a new kitchen, a youth room, and a storage room. This new facility, the Robert E. Young Fellowship Hall, was consecrated on April 12, 1999, and has given us much needed space for growth. In 2003 Wesley House was opened providing even more space for ministry.
About Our Future First United Methodist Church - Hawkins, Texas, looks forward to the future. With the dedication of our people and with God's guidance we will build upon the past and continue to be a positive example in our community. .
