Our Pastor, Rev. David Hicks

Pastor David Hicks was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa.  He graduated from
Open Bible College in Des Moines, and Perkins School of Theology at Southern
Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.  Before moving to Texas in 1982 he served a
United Methodist Church in South Dakota.  He has been married to Carolyn Hicks
since August 2000.  They have a son and daughter in law in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Church Secretary, Michele Dockery

Michele grew up in Amarillo and graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science
in Community Health.  She has worked in the Healthcare industry, as a trainer and educator and
managed Independent Retirement Communities in Texas for 6 years.  She moved down to Holly
Lake Ranch in 2006 to be near her mom, Temple.  Michele is a member of the Daughters of
American Revolution local John Hogg, Sr. Chapter.  She is also the Chairperson for Holly Lake
Ranch/Hawkins Area Aggie Muster 2010 – 2012.  Michele loves spending time with family and
friends, reading, enjoying her cats and wildlife of Holly Lake Ranch.   She feels truly blessed to
serve Hawkins First United Methodist Church and to have met so many wonderful people.
Youth Director,Tracy Thomas
Music Director, Carolyn Hicks

Carolyn was raised in the “Golden Triangle” area in Southeast Texas. She graduated from Vidor
High School, where she was a member of the “Band of Bands, the Mighty Pirate Marching Band”,
under the direction of Charles Smith. She has been a Music Director in several churches
including Hawkins FUMC, Westchase UMC in Houston, First Baptist in West Orange, TX, and
several Children’s Choirs. She is very passionate about her calling as Music Director. She loves
listen to music, read, be with her family (including her Church Family), and gardening. Her
passion for music began as a child when she and her sister, Schery Lou, sang duets…which has
led to a lifetime of loving music and serving the Lord through the talents he has given her. She
says, “we are constantly learning new things from the Lord…we just have to be open to what he
is trying to teach us.”
Tracy grew up here in Hawkins, Texas.  Upon graduating from Hawkins High School, she attended
Tyler Jr. College and Stephen F. Austin State University.  She then moved to Seattle, Washington
where she lived for four years.  After returning to Texas, she married Kenneth Thomas.  Kenneth and
Tracy have been married sixteen years and have two beautiful daughters, Alexa Hope and Jolie Grace
Thomas.  Tracy loves reading, spending time outdoors, and being with her family and friends.
Accompanist, Tricia Ray
Tricia is a native of Ft. Worth.  She and husband Mike, who is from Mineola, met as students at North
Texas State University (now University of North Texas) and were married in 1970. She taught
Spanish and English in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD until her retirement in 2001, when she
and Mike relocated to Holly Lake Ranch.  After having worked briefly at Connie’s Country Casuals
and teaching Spanish at Hawkins High School, Tricia now devotes her time to music, gardening,
and reading.  “Being able to serve the Lord through music is a wonderful blessing for me,” she says,
“and I am grateful to the church for giving me this opportunity. Any talent I have is a gift from Him,
nurtured by my parents who supported me through years of piano lessons and practice!  The best
praise I can get is that the Lord has somehow spoken to a person through my playing.”
